The 2019 Connecticut State Grade Championships! 

Chess Haven will host the Connecticut State Grade Championships on Saturday, January 19th, 2019. Snow date(s): Jan. 20th, extra snow date: Jan 27th.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tournament Information:

 

What: Scholastic Chess Tournament, Open to K-12 (Homeschooled allowed). 4 Rounds, Swiss System, G/30 d5. Each player has 30 min. per game, clocks placed last 5 min.

 

 

15 Total Sections: 13 USCF Rated Sections for every grade from K-12, and 2 Unrated Sections (K-4) or (5-12)

 

 

Where: Hopkins School, 78 Knollwood Drive, New Haven, CT, 06515. Scroll down to look at the map, and use this address to enter. Directions are provided with the map.

 

When: January 19th, 2019.

Registration/Check-in ends at 8:45 AM

Round 1: 9:00 AM (Otherwise ASAP)

Round 2: 10:00 AM (or earlier)

(Lunch Break 11 AM -12 PM)

Rounds 3 and 4 will start ASAP

Round 3: 12:00 PM  (or ASAP)

Round 4: 1:00 PM.  (At the latest). Awards Ceremony will follow shortly afterward. (Starting ~ 2 PM)

Prizes: 

 

Individual Prizes: (All tournament participants qualify for Individual prizes regardless of whether or not they have a team).

 

 

Grade Championship (USCF Rated) Sections - Trophies to top 3 in each (grade/section from K-12). CT State Grade Champion Title plaque is also awarded to the top player in each grade.  

Unrated K-4 Section - Trophies to top 5 players.

Unrated 5-12 Section - Trophies to top 5 players.

 

Team Prizes: Trophy to the top School Team in each of the 15 sections. A team must consist of at least 2 players from the same school (the top 3 players' scores will count).

 

Medals will be given to all participants!

 

Registration: $45 before 1/18/19, $50 on site. All proceeds benefit Chess Haven, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. By participating in this tournament, you are helping us accomplish our mission of spreading chess across the U.S.

 

Discounts offered to larger school teams consisting of 10 or more players. In addition, if you are experiencing financial hardship, we can provide a reduced fee. Additional Notes/Map and Directions:

 

Each grade section of K-12 State Championships is USCF (United States Chess Federation) Rated. USCF Membership is required for these sections. The Unrated Sections (K-4) and (5-12) are NOT USCF Rated. Therefore, membership is NOT required for the Unrated Section. If a player wishes to play in the USCF Rated K-12 Grade Championships but does not have a USCF membership, then one can be purchased on the tournament day for an additional $20.

Please note the USCF Rules will be enforced for the USCF Rated Sections.

 

If a round cannot be made/needs to be skipped, a half-point bye may be requested.

 

Map/Directions: Use the approximate address, 78 Knollwood Drive, New Haven, CT, 06515 to enter through the Knollwood Gate. After entering the school, merge right and go up the steep hill. The road will turn right, and into the parking lot. Then walk down the path that goes straight down to Heath Commons, a flat building with pillars on the front.
